PvPGN FAQ
From EGN Wiki
NOTICE: 25th November 2007 The EGN PvPGN server has now been permanently shutdown.
Below is a list of commonly asked questions regarding the EGN PVPGN Server.
What Blizzard games are supported on the EGN PvPGN Server ?
The following games are supported:
- Warcraft 3 (up to version 1.21a)
- Warcraft 3 Frozen Throne (up to version 1.21a)
- Starcraft 1.15
- Starcraft: Broodwars 1.15
- Diablo 2 1.10
- Diablo 2:Lord of Destruction 1.10
How do I connect to the server with Warcraft 3 ?
A full step-by-step procedure is available from the PvPGN Help page.
What is PvPGN ?
PvPGN stands for Player vs Player Games Network. It is a software package that emulates the multiplayer mechanisms of Battle.Net for Blizzard games.
Why have PvPGN ? Why doesn't everyone just use Battle.net ?
The main reason that we (EGN) have setup a server, is to provide a low latency pvpgn server to the Australian Public which Blizzard has failed to do. There is also the issue regarding more features - players want more functionality in their multiplayer gaming - PvPGN provides this with all sorts of useful console commands, and the like.
I am a server administrator of another games network, where can I get this server software from?
Your best source of information is from the community PvPGN site.
What server software and hardware are you running ?
PvPGN 1.8.0rc2 running on a duel 2.4 P4-xeon + 2 GB DDR. All EGN Games West coast machines have been gratefully loaned by SS-Scum. Note: These boxes have other games server processes running on them too.
I am interested in the way PvPGN & Battle.Net emulation works.
A complete history of alternate Battle.Net multiplayer methods is available here.
What is DoTA ?
Please see the DoTA wiki page.
Other players are unable to connect to the games I create.
This is probably because you are accessing your internet connection behind a router, or gateway which uses NAT (Network Address Translation) to share your ADSL, Cable or Wireless (or dialup even - if you are silly ;P). What is happening is the game is running on your computer (which is behind your router) and when your friends try to connect to the game hosted on your computer - their data gets stoped at the router because the router did not request it and do does not know what to do with them. There might be several computers on your LAN behind the router - and using the same internet connection. So essentially, what needs to be done - is you need to setup the router to forward the data to the computer on your network which is hosting the game. The ports which need to be forwarded are 4000, 6112 & 6200 using TCP & UDP protocols. There are many types of routers, and OS's available - so many that it would be impossible to provide this information here. However, like all things in life - your answer can be found at Google - just do a search for your router (or comp/OS) model with a reference to "Port Forwarding", and something should turn up. GL
