General FAQ
From EGN Wiki
What is EGN Australia?
Please see this page: EGN.
Can EGN sponsor me or my clan ?
EGN Australia does not sponsor clans. We provide a Games network that offers public servers, for anyone to use, and some rental services.
The reason we do not sponsor Clan's, is because they are unstable - they are created and disbanded daily, therefore it is a waste of energy and resources in supporting them.
I can't create threads or post messages in the EGN forums
To create threads and post messages on the EGN forums, you must have created and validated your account. If you entered a valid email address during registration, your email box will have an email asking for validation. Click the Validation link in the email, and this should complete the account validation process.
If you wish to have the validation email resent, simply visit this page: Resend Validation Email.
Why was I banned from your servers ?
Please see the Code of Conduct wiki page.
What exactly is a Steam-id ?
Please see this page: Steamid.
How do I retrieve my Steam-id ?
When you are connected to an online server you need to pull the console down (by default, that's the tilde '~' key), and type 'status'. The Steam-id is the 10-14 character code in the 3rd column (starts with STEAM:), on the same line as your Alias. If you are banned from the EGN Servers, you'll need to connect to another server, and retrieve the information using the same method above.
What is a Licensed Steam Content Service Provider, and why is EGN one of these ?
A Steam content service provider hosts a High-spec dedicated server storing and serving all Steam game and application content. EGN hosts one of these servers for all users to use freely.
Can I configure my Steam client to connect to your content server or to another's ?
This is not an option you can set in your steam client. What actually happens is your steam client looks at all steam content servers and automatically works out which server is the closest, and fastest. There are ways you can setup firewall rules, and the like, which may force your client to connect elsewhere, but it can be quite difficult if you aren't a networking expert.
What is Steam ?
Please see this page Steam.
How do I get my console key to work ?
If you are using the built in server browser in Half-Life (i.e. not Gamespy, Server Query or All Seeing Eye or some other 3rd party server querying software) to find and connect to servers, you probably run a shortcut on your desktop or in your start menu. If your console isn't working you need to do the following: Find the shortcut, right click on it, and select properties. Click the shortcut tab and then in 'Target' ensure that '-console' follows the target path. for example: If the Target was 'C:\games\Half-life\hl.exe -game cstrike' you need to change it to 'C:\games\Half-life\hl.exe -game cstrike -console'. By default the console is bound to the tilde key '`'. If after pressing it, it still isn't working, you may need to add the following to your c:\games\Half-life\cstrike\config.cfg file: bind "`" "toggleconsole". It's not Rocket Science, have fun, the console is the best feature of any game.
Can I be a Rcon Administrator ?
EGN Administrators are recruited by reference only. This means that our existing admins suggest who they think would be suitable. Normally a suitable person may be one that is 17 years of age and older, understands rcon/administrator commands, is active on the forums, reports abuse/cheaters regularly, etc. If you would like to contact us to make your name heard, please complete a Contact Us form.
Please note that sending in a very brief Contact Us form will just get you over looked. The more information you provide the better your chances are of possibly becoming an EGN Admin.
The information required is; Rcon experience if any, any Admins that can vouch for you, your real name, forum and gaming name, your steamid and a contactable email address.
Where can I make a comment regarding EGN ?
If you would like to leave feedback on the EGN services, please either create a thread over in the Suggestions/Comments Forum and or simply email support at egn dot com dot au.
Think something else should be on this Page ?
Please send an email through to one of the Management Admins. Their contacts are available here: here.
Do you have an IRC Channel ?
Yes, we run an unofficial channel on GameSurge, the channel name is simply "#egn".
Do you host any Linux Distributions
We host the Debian Repository - more information on this, can be found here: Getting Debian updates via EFTel Mirror.
