Notice EGN LAN events are no longer in operation. See this page for details.
The FAQ below, relate to the EGN LAN Events run quarterly in Perth.
What is a LAN Event ?
LAN is an acronym for 'Local Area Network'. For those unsure what a LAN is: a group of computers, connected for the purposes of communicating and sharing resources.
Do I have to be over 18 years of age to attend ?
No, the EGN Lan is an all-age's Event.
What do I need to bring when attending the EGN Lan ?
Your computer with operable ethernet (RJ45) network card and Cat5/RJ45 network cable of at least 2 metres in length (we will have some for sale for $5.00 each if you forget), $15.00 for payment of the entry fee, munchies, or additional funds if you decide to purchase food at the venue, and yourself of course.
What is provided?
A clean, safe, friendly venue with sufficient power and space. A chair, table space and Ethernet connection port for each attendee.
Why do you call your events a number dot another number ?
Because we're Geeks ;)
Seriously? Well, the first number stands for year, and the second number stands for the event number of that year. So '2.1' is the 1st event of the 2nd year we have been running it.
This versioning scheme is courtesy of Nightfire.
What speed is the network ?
The network to your desktop is 1000/100/10 - so everyone, regardless of their PC/NIC age, should be able to connect at a decent speed. Keep in mind these speeds aren't guaranteed, since the uplink connections to the core switch (currently) are also only gigibit. The core switch itself has a fairly large backplane.
Can I bring booze and smoke ?
Minors will be attending this event, and therefore alcohol is strictly prohibited. Anyone found drinking, will be asked to leave the premises. Smokers can smoke outside the Hall.
Will there be an Internet Connection at the LAN ?
An Internet connection will be available strictly for administrative purposes, downloading of patches and STEAM authentication.
Will there be any food to buy on the day ?
Pies, muffins and drinks will be available at the canteen. In the evening there will also be a Pizza run.
There is to be no food or drink outside of the canteen area
What games will be played ?
There is no restriction on what games you play.
Will you have dedicated games servers running ?
Yes, several games servers will be running for anyone to connect on. The selection of which games to host will depend on demand. We expect to have Counter-Strike Source, Natural Selection, and Battlefield 2 servers running locally on the day.
Is there much parking available ?
There is plenty of parking available right in front of the venue.
Is there Air Conditioning and will my monitor be facing a window ?
The Venue does have Air Conditioning. Lighting will be on, and stay on, to meet safety regulations.
Why can't I register for the LAN now, and pay when I arrive ?
Unconfirmed registrations are only open a few days before the LAN starts. Ideally, we would like to get pre-pay registrations so we can be sure on our numbers, and budget as accurately as possible.
Who will look after my child at the LAN ?
While the organisers will take all due care to ensure an orderly and lawful event, we cannot take responsibility for individual minors. The organisers will however ensure that violence, offensive and/or disruptive behavior and similar conduct is not condoned and individuals breaking the code of conduct will be dealt with promptly once it is brought to our attention.
Why can't I prepay with Direct Deposit?
We disable the direct deposit pre-payment method a week before the event, as there can sometimes be delays with this payment reaching our end before the date of the event. If you still wish to prepay, you can still do so via Credit Card or Paypal.
