Broadband FAQ
From EGN Wiki
What is the process for obtaining the EGN Broadband deals ?
- With a registered and logged in EGN Forum account, goto the EGN Plans page.
- Select the desired plan and then click Get Activation Code.
- The subsequent page will display plan details, if they are right, click the confirm button.
- An email will then get automatically sent to the email address you used for your EGN Forum account.
- When your ready to signup, goto register.eftel.com and enter your activation code (from the email).
- This will begin the application process, where you will be asked a few questions, and your contact and address details will be recorded too.
- Once the application is complete, someone from EFTel should contact you within 1-2 working days, to get the verbal/written authorisation they need to proceed with the Churn.
- The Churn will then get actioned, and you'll receive an email with all the modem authorisation details.
- Within 4-10 days pending no issues with the line, your ADSL will be switched over and you'll receive an sms (and email) notification stating that it is ready.
What type of of Broadband plans do you offer?
The plans are designed as fixed price, monthly contract, no bundling with an unmetered traffic zone to a selection of game, file and voice servers - perfect for gamers!
Why do you only offer two speeds ?
We conducted a survey in December 2006, and found the vast majority of gamers were only interested in the high speed plans. This result was also reflected by broadband enthusiasts who completed the whirlpool Broadband survey. Since EGN is a service for gamers, and not an ISP (for general consumers), we figured it would be more suitable to only offer the two fastest ADSL1 speeds.
Why don't you offer ADSL2+ ?
Our Broadband plans are provided by EFTel, whom currently do not offer ADSL2+ services. They are of course planning to, and when they do, we also expect to be able to offer the services. So stay tuned :)
How can I test what speed my connection is
The following can be used when testing connection speeds:
- EFTel's Speedtest Site - ideal for EFTel customers, as it has a forward results function.
- OzspeedTest.com - ideal for all broadband of all ISP's, as it has a test mirror for just about every ISP.
- Speedtest.net - ideal for broadband users around the world, as it has test mirror's in just about every country.
How do I change Plans
If you are an existing customer of EFTel Broadband, or a customer already on an EGN Broadband Plan, and wish to change to a different EGN Plan, you need to:
Contact EGN Management and provide them with
- Your EFTel Account Name (joe@eftel.net.au)
- The name of the plan you wish to change from and to
- Your previous (or a new) activation code.
- A suitable time for an EFTel Representative to phone you to seek authorisation for the change
Notes
- If the Plan change involves a change to your Quota, the changes can take effect within a day and there is no extra charge.
- If the Plan change invovles a change to the speed of your connection, the change can take 1-4 days, and there is a $33 charge.
- Attempting to contact EFTel through normal channels such as email/phone helpdesk to make this change, may be unsuccessful - since the EGN Plans are special plans only available through EGN.
Do you have any other plans available
Only those listed on the Broadband-Plans page. These plans are not negotiable, as they are already significantly discounted.
What is the the Peak and Off-Peak Period ?
The Peak Period is: 8:00 AM to 12:00 AM (usually the busy period) and the Off-Peak period is between 12:00 AM and 8:00 AM. This time is local to your timezone. The EGN Plans have a different allocation of quote for each period, giving you extra value!
I get 5 free email accounts, how do I create these ?
