History

EGN in 2000

The administrators of EGN, specifically Alex Bergin, have been involved in games network management since May 2000, when Q-Net Games was formed. Q-Net Games was a small (but decent at the time) games network, which ran 3 CS Beta Servers in Nedlands, WA, on a Pentium 3 - 600mhz, 128 MB Ram.

A screenshot of our website at the time can be seen to the right - this version of the website was a static/graphic orientated site, using the infamous Dreamweaver application. Never would we do this again user posted image An archive of the 2000 site can be found over on web.archive.org, as well as the 2001 site which can also be found over on web.archive.org.

In January 2001, Q-Net, SpaceNet, Internet Express, and a number of other Western Australian ISP's, joined together to form EFTel. Since Q-Net Games was the only one of these that had a games network, their games network became 'EFTel Games'.

In July 2002, John Ryan, being involved with another Western Australian games network AXG, donated two high quality servers to 'EFTel Games'. From here on, John Ryan and Alex Bergin worked together to setup more servers to meet growing demand. An archive of the site for this time, can be found over on web.archive.org.

In May 2004, John Ryan, registered the EGN Australia business name, in preparation for EGN to begin offering rentable games servers.

In September 2005, EGN expanded to the East coast, and set up servers in Melbourne, Victoria. This saw the games network double in size!

During 2007, a new website was created by Alex Bergin, which included a complete re-development of our site design, content, branding, and so on. The site went live on June 5th 2007.
