Tournament Rules

These are by no means fixed, if you have suggestions for improvements or constructive criticism please say so.

Format

The format of the tournament will be as follows:

  • Double elimination format tournament
  • 4 players a side for 1 match. Winner advances in that fixture
  • Game mode will be "-rdem". In this mode a random set of two taverns worth of heroes will be made available for selection for both teams. Easy mode is considered but up for debate.
    • It is the server host's job (as the blue player) to type this game mode (-rdem) in upon the start of play.
    • The game allows 20 seconds choosing time per player before locking selections. Players that fail to select a hero are locked out of the game at this point. In the event of this the two teams must agree to a course of action with complete restarts allowed if both teams agree to it.
  • Teams will alternate between sentinels and scourge teams via either the ladder setting or coin tosses (to be decided)
  • A win is determined by total destruction of the opposing teams throne or tree of life structure which signals a endgame scoreboard. An alternative arrangement will apply in the event the game runs over 60 minutes where an official will make the call.
  • Map used is to be a either:
    • Latest map release
    • Latest Stable Release (currently 6.48b)

Decision on map will be made closer to the date, feedback welcome on arguments against 6.48b as it is the choice thus far.

Server Settings

The server will be hosted by the team designated to host unless other arrangements between the teams are met beforehand. The following is to ensure fair selection of heroes due to the 4 players a side rules: All players are to occupy the top most slots in their team in descending order. This is to prevent exploiting the extra slot for delayed hero choices for strategic gain. In the event of a server crash the following applies and is similar to league rules albeit modified: In the event the server dies for reasons including: server split, map fatal error, unforeseen issues, the time of the crash is used to determine the course of action.

  • If it has been in approximately the first five minutes of play, the game will be restart and run in "-apem" mode. All players MUST select the same hero they used before, and enter the same lanes initially to preserve the game.
  • Otherwise an official will be required to judge from one of two options:
    • If this game has proceeded for more than this amount of time but less than 30 minutes. The game will likely be restarted in "-rdem" mode and count as a full restart.
    • If a team has been clearly winning then this will be given in an effort to preserve scheduling.

Pooling

League rules apply. Summarised below:

Definition

Pooling: The purchasing of items for use or sale by another player.

Exception

Consumable and limited scale regeneration items may be shared between other players for limited use. These items are defined as any consumable or item with a purchase value of under $900. This is not to be confused with resale value which gives a far lower cost.

Backdooring

No enemy hero is allowed to attack a structure belonging to the opposing team unless that lane's respective creeps have pushed to within visibility range of that structure. They do not have to be attacking that structure however. This range is defined as the creep being able to see the structure in question.

This rule is open to change with League rules which state: Any form of backdooring is permissible except teleporting into the base.

Team killing

As with tower denying and creep denying. This is a valid tactic to deny enemy players of experience and gold. It should be noted to the uninitiated that team killing is only possible by force attacking a friendly hero while it is under the effects of a negative effect (eg. Doom)

Server/Player Issues

In the event of a server drop. Since replays won't save, screenshots are the only way to do any sort of analysis in the event of a dispute. These screenshots need the scoreboard open and minimap visible. Both teams should type "-ma" before screenshotting to allow respective levels to be judgeable. As opposed to CS 1 screenshot per able player is preferable.

Officials will use these to determine the course of action which may result in awarding a team with a win or restarting.

Screenshots are accomplished via the print screen button.

Other Rules

As usual the following are explicitly forbidden and failure to comply can be grounds for disqualification of the team from the tournament. There is to be NO:

  • Screening: using opponent displays for strategic gain
  • Cheating: Including but not limited to the use of 3rd party programs such as maphacks
  • Bad Sportsmanship
